Q: THE VAGINA IS SELF-CLEANING, WHY USE A FEMININE WASH?

A: It is important to note the difference between the vulva and vagina. The vulva comprises of the outer genital area of the body and includes the clitoris, urethra (hole that you pee from), labia and vaginal opening.

The vagina is a tube that connects your vulva with your cervix and uterus. It’s what babies and menstrual blood leave the body through. It’s also where some people put penises, fingers, sex toys, menstrual cups, and/or tampons. Your vagina is really stretchy, and expands when you feel turned on.

The vagina is self-cleaning and does not require any soap to be clean, water is sufficient. HOWEVER, the vulva is where bacteria, dirt, sweat and urine build up and can cause unpleasant odour. Washing with water may not be sufficient and a gentle mild soap may help, especially if you like to keep it a little bushy.

Q: WHAT ARE BORIC ACID SUPPOSITORIES?

A: BORIC ACID (BOHR ik AS id) helps to promote the proper acid balance in the vagina. It is used to help treat yeast infections of the vagina and relieve symptoms such as itching and burning.

Q: HOW DO YOU USE BORIC ACID SUPPOSITORIES?

A: The typical dosage is 600 mg per day. You should insert a new suppository every day for 7 to 14 days.

To insert suppository:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before removing capsule from its package.
  2. Although suppository can be inserted at any angle, most women find it helpful to lie on their backs with bent knees. You can also stand with your knees bent and feet a few inches apart.
  3. Gently insert one suppository as far as it can comfortably go in the vagina. You may choose to use your finger or an applicator.
  4. If using an applicator, discard it after use.
  5. It is advisable to wear a panty liner, as there may be discharge after you insert the suppository.
  6. Wash your hands again thoroughly before resuming daily activities.

You should insert your suppository at the same time each day. You may find that bedtime works best for your schedule.

Q: HOW SOON CAN I SEE RESULTS?

A:  You may see some improvement in as little as one day, but you should complete the full course of medication to ensure that the infection doesn’t return. If your infection is particularly acute, consider inserting capsules twice daily into the vagina for 6 to 14 days. If your infections are chronic, consider using one suppository each day.

Q: WHAT ARE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS?

A: You may experience:
  • burning at the insertion site
  • watery discharge
  • redness in the vaginal area
If you experience severe discomfort, discontinue use. See your healthcare provider if your symptoms persist even after ending treatment.
You shouldn’t use boric acid suppositories if:
  • you’re pregnant, as the ingredients are toxic to the developing fetus
  • you have a scrape or other open wound in the vagina
Boric acid can be fatal when taken orally, so it should only be used via a vaginal suppository.

Q: WHAT IS A MENSTRUAL CUP?

A: A menstrual cup is a type of reusable feminine hygiene product. It’s a small, flexible funnel-shaped cup made of rubber or silicone that you insert into your vagina to catch and collect period fluid.
Cups can hold more blood than other methods, leading many women to use them as an eco-friendly alternative to tampons. And depending on your flow, you can wear a cup for up to 12 hours.

Q: HOW DO YOU INSERT A MENSTRUAL CUP?

A: If you can put in a tampon, you should find it relatively easy to insert a menstrual cup. Just follow these steps to use a cup:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Apply water or a water-based lube to the rim of the cup.
  3. Tightly fold the menstrual cup in half, holding it in one hand with the rim facing up.
  4. Insert the cup, rim up, into your vagina like you would a tampon without an applicator. It should sit a few inches below your cervix.
  5. Once the cup is in your vagina, rotate it. It will spring open to create an airtight seal that stops leaks.

You shouldn’t feel your menstrual cup if you’ve inserted the cup correctly. You should also be able to move, jump, sit, stand, and do other everyday activities without your cup falling out.

Q: HOW DO YOU REMOVE A MENSTRUAL CUP?

A: To take out a menstrual cup, just follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Place your index finger and thumb into your vagina. Pull the stem of the cup gently until you can reach the base.
  3. Pinch the base to release the seal and pull down to remove the cup.
  4. Once it’s out, empty the cup into the sink or toilet.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SIZE OF CUP IS SUITABLE FOR ME?

A: To figure out the right menstrual cup size for you, you should consider:
  • your age
  • length of your cervix
  • whether or not you have a heavy flow
  • firmness and flexibility of the cup
  • cup capacity
  • strength of your pelvic floor muscles
  • if you’ve given birth vaginally
Smaller menstrual cups are usually recommended for women younger than 30 years old who haven’t delivered vaginally. Larger sizes are often recommended for women who are over 30 years old, have given birth vaginally, or have a heavier period.

Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING A MENSTRUAL CUP?

A: Some advantages of using the menstrual cup include the following:

  • Unlike tampons, menstrual cups don’t dry the vagina. This preserves the healthy bacteria that protect you from vaginal infections.
  • Menstrual cups aren’t associated with toxic shock syndrome (TSS), which is a rare, life-threatening condition linked to tampon use.
  • Menstrual cups don’t contain chemicals found in tampons and pads, such as bleach and dioxin. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Trusted Source, some dioxins are known to cause cancer in humans.
  • Many women report having less severe cramping when using cups, although no clinical studies have been performed to support this.
  • Menstrual fluid develops an odor when exposed to air. Cups eliminate this issue.
  • Most women report that they don’t even feel the cup when it’s in place.
  • Reusable menstrual cups are environmentally friendly. The Women’s Environmental Network reports that each year more than 400 million pounds of sanitary pads, tampons, and tampon applicators end up in landfills.

Q: WHAT IS VAGINAL STEAMING?

A: Vaginal steaming is an ancient holistic practice that utilizes herbal infusions from carefully selected herbs into a warm, deeply penetrative steam bath for the vaginal tissues and reproductive system. The vapors from the warm herbal steam carry the medicinal plant oils to the vagina, cervix and uterus. This supports the uterus in releasing any stagnant blood built up on the uterine lining, ensuring that the next cycle is easy and pain-free, helping an egg to implant, and reducing other uterine abnormalities. The result is a healthier and much more pleasant cycle!

Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VAGINAL STEAMING?

A: 1. Reduce Discomfort, Bloating and Cramps From Menses
     2. Regulate Absent or Irregular Cycles
     3. Preventative Care
     4. Improve Fertility and Prepare For Conception
     5. Fertility Cleanse
     6. Enhance Vital Blood Flow
     7. Speed Healing and Tone The Reproductive System After Birth
     8. Ease Anxiety, Strengthen Confidence
     9. Miscarriage Recovery
    10. Reduce Uterine Fibroids and Cysts
    11. Relieve Chronic Bacterial & Yeast Infections
    12. Maintain Healthy Odor
    13. Ease Symptoms of Menopause
    14. Meditation
    15. Sitz Bath Soak for Hemorrhoids
    16. Sitz Bath Soak for Postpartum Healing

Q: WHO IS  VAGINAL STEAMING NOT SUITABLE FOR?

A: Do NOT do a vaginal steam if you are pregnant (or think you might be). Steaming is not recommended for women who have an IUD, women who are currently menstruating, or women who are prone to spontaneous bleeding. Please note, women who are trying to conceive should not steam between ovulation and their next menstruation in case they are pregnant.
